Eikos Signs Option Agreement To License Key Patents For Commercial Production of Touchscreens
FRANKLIN, MA (December 12, 2008) - Today Eikos, Inc. signed an Option Agreement with a large multinational corporation after negotiating terms and conditions for a license to key Eikos patents directed at technology needed for production of touch screen devices utilizing Invisicon® carbon nanotube transparent conductive technology.
It is anticipated that commercial sales will begin by the end of 2009 and expand to address next generation touch sensor designs. This development is particularly exciting because it represents how far the Invisicon® technology has advanced recently. Prior to this announcement, commercial products using single walled nanotube coatings where limited to electrostatic/dissipative applications. This license demonstrates the transition to touch sensors and other applications that require higher performance. The license represents significant validation of market penetration and broad utility of this technology.
Eikos, Inc. is a developer and manufacturer of highly transparent carbon nanotube inks for conductive coatings and circuits for use in solar cells, flat panel displays, OLED lighting, smart windows and other established markets. Eikos’ patented Invisicon® transparent conductors (‘nanowires’) will enable high volume, low cost production of a thinner, more flexible and more durable conductive coating technology that will displace Indium Tin Oxide (ITO), Zinc Oxide, PEDOT/PSS, and other transparent conductors. A privately held company headquartered in Franklin Massachusetts, Eikos has a number of licenses and development contracts with major global companies, U.S. military agencies and NASA.
